Aug 16, 2006 ( Hollywood, CA ) ---Apple has a long tradition of emphasizing the user experience, rather than the technology involved in delivering that experience.

Apple branched out into consumer electronics. One example of this product diversification was the Apple QuickTake digital camera, one of the first digital cameras ever brought to the consumer market.

With so many choices out there in the world of digital cameras, it can be hard to choose. How much should you spend? Well that obviously depends on your budget, but you don’t have to break the bank to get a good camera. Here are the top digital cameras under $200.

First up, is the Canon A510. For around $170, this camera packs a punch with a 4 mega pixel sensor for prints up to 11x14. It has a 4x optical zoom, 9 point auto focus system, and 13 shooting modes. There are also portrait, landscape, night scene, fast shutter, slow shutter, special scene, stitch assist, and movie modes. The Special Scene mode has been enhanced, and has two settings called Kids and Pets, and Night Snapshot, making it easy for even the most novice users to get fabulous results.

When taking a photograph, there are really only three controls that matter on a camera: focus, shutter speed and aperture. Focus is reasonably obvious; you can quickly spot when a picture is out of focus. Likewise shutter speed is easy to understand since it is measured in fractions of a second. However aperture is a mystery to most people, because it is usually explained using technical jargon and its effects are not immediately obvious.

Thanks to the accelerated frame rate of the new DS-Fi1, positioning and focusing have become even easier, and, with its interline CCD solid-state image sensor providing a resolution of 5.0 million pixels, it produces high-quality brightfield, darkfield, phase contrast, DIC and fluorescence images. The Nikon DS-Fi1 also incorporates a newly designed IR filter on the camera head to improve red colour reproduction.

In order to assist with controlling the DS-Fi1 camera, Nikon has also introduced two new control units, giving the user a choice of a simple-to-use stand-alone system, or a hub controller for connection to a PC which facilitates more complex image analysis.

Live images can be comfortably captured, observed, recorded and utilised using the new stand-alone DS-L2 controller without being connected to a PC.

Though Samsung cameras usually represent good value, they haven’t set the world alight for style.

Looking to change that is the slim – yet solidly constructed – 7.2 megapixel Samsung NV3.

Functionality hasn’t been sacrificed for a clean design, and it includes an MP3 player with stereo speaker and headphones, ISO1000 sensitivity for low light photography (though image noise is inevitably visible), MPEG-4 movies, Advanced Shake Reduction to counteract wobbly hands and blurred images (in truth it’s hit and miss), plus red eye fix, voice recording and a text viewer mode to aid use as an e-book.

The E-330 is an update of Olympus's previous digital SLR camera, the E-300. On the face of it, there are no major changes.

However, the big difference becomes apparent when the camera is switched on; it's now possible to view a live image on the viewfinder.

For those used to digital compact cameras – which is to say, most of us – that's not going to be an earth-shattering revelation.

Most digital cameras allow the photographer to use the screen as a viewfinder while lining up a shot. In fact, many digital cameras don't even come with conventional viewfinders any more.

If you've never seen anything wrong with handing your toddler endless bottles of grape juice, you could eventually find your child with Early Childhood Caries (ECC), a kind of tooth decay found on baby teeth. The cavities are caused by prolonged exposure to sweetened juices and tend to be overlooked by parents until the pain becomes so severe that the only option for the toddlers--often under the age of 4--is sedation and extraction.

Good thing technology can come to the rescue (again).

When digital cameras hit the mass market in 1997, consumers couldn't get enough of them. Within nine years, nearly 300 million digital cameras were sold, and half of all households in the U.S. and Japan owned one, as did 41% of all European households, making digital photography one of the fastest-adopted technologies of all time. Such dramatic change comes at a price: the icons of photography as we knew it tumbled. Polaroid went bust in 2001. Kodak stopped making film cameras in 2004.

Now, however, it's the sellers of digital cameras themselves who have to worry about possible extinction. With the summer photo-snapping season in full swing, market-research firm IDC is predicting that consumers in Japan and Western Europe will buy fewer digital cameras this year than they did last year (in fact, the numbers already declined in Japan in 2005). Around the world,
